Normally, light shelf is placed on the southside of the building to reduce the amount of direct sun. A light shelf is an exterior shading device mounted to the exterior of the building above the exterior windows and it is primary used to reduce the amount of heat gain and visual glare entering into the interior spaces. A light shelf is usually used on large south facing high windows.
